Safety Sam & His Safety Board
Distrilog launches Safety Sign on all sites: safety gets a face with ‘Safety Sam’.
On Tuesday 1 April an important step was taken at Distrilog in strengthening the safety culture within the company: the new Safety board was launched at all 20 sites at about the same time. This board now forms the central communication point around safety for all employees, and puts safety literally on the map within Distrilog.
The eye-catcher on the board is Safety Sam, the brand-new safety mascot who from now on will be the face of safe working at Distrilog. With his recognisable look and clear message, Safety Sam will remind employees of the importance of safe operations in and around the warehouse - both on foot and when using rolling stock.
The initiative came about under the influence of the prevention department, with the aim of reducing the number of workplace accidents and structurally improving overall safety in all depots. ‘Safety is not a one-day project, it is a daily attitude,’ says the prevention department. ‘With the Safety sign, we want to reinforce that reflex in everyone.’
To mark the launch, a toolbox meeting was organised in each depot. In this meeting, the site manager took the floor and explained the content of the Safety board: from emergency procedures to guidelines for safe use of machinery and reporting procedures in case of dangerous situations. Employees thus got a clear overview of what the documents on the board mean and how they should be applied in practice.
To further increase engagement, at the end of the session, each employee was given a Safety Sam keychain to take home - a small gesture with great symbolic value. This way, safety becomes not only something for work, but also something to take home.
Distrilog thus takes another step forward in its ambition to provide a safe, healthy and sustainable working environment for all its employees. With Safety Sam as an ally, safety will henceforth be a shared responsibility - visible, recognisable and present every day.
