Automation Project Distrilog Breendonk
After months of intensive implementation and meticulous planning, the automation project at Distrilog's Breendonk warehouse is finally up and running. Back in June, the outside world had the chance to witness first-hand this advanced implementation that is now the flagship of our warehouse operations in Breendonk.
Innovative automation
At the heart of this automation are 12 RAEs (automatic reach trucks) and 8 SAEs (automatic stackers). These advanced machines are designed to pick full pallets from an Infeed Conveyor and efficiently put them away in the warehouse or in buffer racks. Together, these units account for as many as 3,000 movements a day, creating significant operational efficiencies.
For 1 specific client
This comprehensive automation of the Inbound flow, Outbound flow and Replenishment was implemented for 1 specific customer, with whom we have built a strong and long-term partnership. By working closely together, we were able to create a solution that perfectly meets the customer's needs while optimising our logistics processes.
Benefits of Automation
The automation project brings numerous benefits. One of the biggest benefits is the ability to continue working day and night. The automated machines can operate without lighting or heating, which not only reduces operational costs but also contributes to sustainability. In addition, the monitoring of all 20 AGVs is done by only 1 person, which largely addresses the problem of labour shortage. Moreover, the automation is easy to scale up, which allows us to grow even further and expand our capacity in the future.
Collaboration and Investment
Such an advanced automation is quite pricey, but this project does represent the epitome of collaboration between Distrilog and its client. Both parties have a shared vision towards automation and were determined to realise this vision. By investing in this technology together, both parties have taken an important step towards the future of logistics and warehouse management.
Looking to the future
This commissioning marked not only the successful implementation of the project, but also the beginning of a new era for our warehouses. With this automation, we were able to respond to the current logistics trend that replaces labour-intensive logistics activities with capital-intensive ones. We look forward to further implementing this and other technologies to make our processes even more efficient.
